Just avoid sprouts from fruiting plants & flowers.Snip the smallest sprout(s) above the rockwool, leaving the correct number of sprouts to continue growing. Gradually thin seedlings to proper spacing, and eat. It's best to thin your plants after they've been exposed to plant food for 1 week, helping you to see which are the tallest sprouts versus which ones won't make the cut. Start seeds indoors in individual containers, or sow seeds outdoors half an inch deep and 2 inches apart. To plant Dill in a pot, fill the pot with well-draining soil. Follow the table below for each variety's thinning rule. Dill does best in full sun, so make sure your pot has good drainage and is in a sunny spot. There are very few plants that do not require any thinning. Typically, most fruiting plants & leafy greens should be thinned to 1 plant per 圜ube, while most herbs & bushy plants such as flowers should be thinned to 3 plants per 圜ube. Plant the seeds at to ¼ inch depth in an area of full sun (at least 6 to 8 hours of direct sunlight). Dill seedlings do not transplant well due to their long, thick taproot. Thinning gives the remaining plant(s) increased access to light, water, nutrients, air, & space. Dill is propagated from seed, and though it can be started and grown indoors, it is best to sow the flat brown seeds directly into the garden. Thin the seedlings while small to stand 8 to 10 inches asunder. Each stem or sprout coming from the 圜ube is its own plant, and it's normal for many to sprout at once. Sown in drills 15 to 18 inches apart in early spring in warm soil and a sunny place. If you overseed, you will need to thin seedlings to 12 inches apart to give room for the broccoli to grow. To give the best chances of germination success, each 圜ube is usually seeded with 6 seeds (for big seeds like peas, we use 3 seeds per 圜ube). For a bountiful harvest of dill, sow more seeds every two weeks until early summer, and then again in late summer for a fall harvest. When seedlings are 2 inches tall, thin plants so they are 12 inches apart. Dill seeds will germinate in 7 to 21 days. It may sound counterintuitive, but removing some plants in each 圜ube increases your plants’ health & ability to grow large. Plant dill seeds ¾ to 1 inch deep in rows 18 inches apart.
